Pinus pumila in alpine zone

Pinus pumila is a kind of pine trees, which is found in alpine zone.
This pine tree has character of reclining over slope of mountain.
And this tree is known as pioneer species living in rocky area.
Heavy snow falls in winter rather protect tihs pine trees from weather hardship than directly blown by cold wind.


South sunny side of mountain is covered all over with reclining pines. The sprouts are all coming out together.

Salix Matsudana ‘Tortuosa’

This tree is also known as Curly Willow.

I met big willow who has characteristic of screwed branch at the lakeside of Biwako in Nagahama of Shiga Prefecture.

This type of plant is called “Unryu / 雲竜 / うんりゅう” in Japan.

“Un-Ryu” literally means “Clouds-Dragon” in English. It may be said that “Un-Ryu” refers to old painting works. It is known as “Un-Ryu-Zu” = “Clouds-Dragon-Drawing”

As for Un-Ryu-Zu, It may be good to see website of Kenninji temple.

Plants who has characteristic of Unryu is usually favored especially in bonsai.

That is reason why Unryu has character of screwed branch in itself and it is essential elements for bonsai when we shape it.


The willow was big bushy tree who had three trunks.


This tree has many twisted branches.


Leaves are also cuarly

Mt.Eboshiyama – to meet Juniperus chinensis

Mt.Eboshiyama has 162 meters high. It may too small to call it mountain.

 

 

At the top of the mountain, there is a shrine and several trees of juniper in front of it.

Mt.Fuji reflects the setting sun.

At Heda in Izu peninsula where is located across Pacific ocean from south of mt.Fuji.
